Default Connect to COMPUTERNAME, dialog box

In a windows network with one PC running XP, and one Mac running OS X 10.3.9
with Windows networking enabled, I added a Vista machine today. The two PCs
are on wireless, the Mac is wired. After setting up the Vista (which was the
most complicated of the 3) and replacing the McAfee firewall with the Windows
firewall, all three computer can see each other. However, there is a
difference in connections. BTW, I have password access turned on.

From the XP and the Mac I can log on to each of the other two, but not from
the Vista. In Folders view I see the other two. When I click on the XP it
shows the content on the shared folders WITHOUT asking for user name and
password (I have the same account and password on each machine). But when
clicking on the Mac a dialog box called "Connect to MACNAME" opens, asking
for User name and Password. Fine, just as the Mac behaves, don't connect
without a password.

However, when entering my user name and password and clicking OK, I get an
error message, and the user name has been changed by Vista by insterting the
Vista machine's NAME and \ first (e.g., VISTAPC\MyUserName). Of course the
Mac doesn't recognize the user name if the Vista has changed it!

What is worse is that there is no relevant context sensitive help available,
and I have not been able to locate any help anywhere (and Gateway, who
according to Microsoft should provide the support for the bundled OS, refuses
to do so according to Shanna with badge number EUS111609).

Default Re: Connect to COMPUTERNAME, dialog box

You may want to modify NTLMv2 settings. This post may help.

Vista: Can’t access NAS,MAC, Linux ...Vista: Can’t access NAS,MAC, Linux,
Samba and Win98 .... Resolution: It works after re-set LM authentication
level in Vista to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 ...
