Connect to two networks from one machine...

Posted: 04-25-2008, 09:18 PM

I am currently running Windows Vista Ultimate on a Dell laptop. I am
using the built-in wireless NIC to connect to a Linksys Wireless Access
point which is connected to my office computer network. I am also
(trying) to use my Clearwire Internet PCMCIA Adapter (it's a satellite
Internet Service Provider) at the same time.

I want to use the wireless NIC connection (we'll call it the Office
Connection) to access my LAN resources (Exchange Server, Printers,
Network Folders, etc). DHCP is enabled. To access the Internet, I have
to connect to a proxy server.

I want to use the satellite NIC connection (the Clearwire PCMCIA one)
to access the Internet. The card uses a simple piece of software to
initiate the card, connect to the network, and authenticate my account.
Card doesn't work if the software is turned off. DHCP is enabled. When
the office connection is disabled, it's a direct connection to the
Internet, no proxy server.

So, in a nutshell, I want Vista to use my wireless connection for my
Outlook, Printers, and Network Resources. I want Vista to use my
Clearwire connection for the Internet.

I tried bridging the two, but that didn't work. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Hi
You can Not use the web with both, but you can use the web with the
Clearwire, and use the other card for LAN connection.
First set the metrics to prefer the Clearwire,
http://www.ezlan.net/metrics.html
Then unbind File and Printer sharing from the Clearwire, and bind Sharing
only to the TCP/IP of the second card.

So the proposed setup works for Internet. But I cannot access m
Microsoft Exchange Server using this method.

Here's the current setup:

NAM

_ File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks (not enabled)
x TCP/IPv6
x TCP/IPv4
x Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver
x Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder

TCP/IP PROPERTIE
x Obtain IP address automatically
x Obtain DNS server address automatically

Interface metric: 10

NAM
"Local Area Connection 3" (this is a wired connection to my workplac
switch)

STATU
