See the message in this newsgroup with the subject: "Printing, Imaging,
Fax and All-in-One FAQ for July 31, 2003" (without quotes) and see topic 3.

If your wireless PC runs XPpro AND you have set things up to use XP file
sharing instead of the "recommended" Simple File Sharing, see the topic
in that message under "When I try to print from my Windows 9x computer I
get prompted for the password for IPC$"

connecting a printer

Hi sue,

It shouldn't matter about OS, I would first check
the network properties on each computer connected to your
system to see if you are running the NetBEUI protocol on
your other computers, if so then install the NetBEUI
protocol on your XP system as well.

sometimes this will keep a computer from sharing a
printer. Good Luck & I hope this helps.

After I re-read the original post, I realized that the second paragraph
in my reply isn't on point. But as for Will's response, see
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;306059 that says
that NETBEUI is not supported for XP and is not normally installed.

Connecting a printer

I can not connect my new printer, or my old one for that
matter. The ports are all in working order. When I
install the disk for the printer and I get to the connect
USB cable, nothing happens. Dell and Lexmark say it must
be a software issue with Windows XP. I've already spent
countless hours talking to support personel at both and
am trying different things to get this to work, at no
avail. I bought a new HP and am having the same problem.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
