connecting to a network

Posted: 11-23-2006, 05:43 PM
We have a windows vista rc2 computer attempting to connect to a windows xp
home network. The vista computer connets to the internet okay through the
router but none of the computers on the network can see the vista computer
and the vista computer cannot see the other computers.

The home network is named mshome. The vista can't see that workgroup name.

The vista computer is wireless. The other computers are wired.

Thanks,

Peter

Hi,
Either change XP to workgroup;or change Vista to MSHOME.

Hello Peter, you might find this helpful. As Jeff mentioned, you can easily
change the workgroup name or connect to the computer by clicking Start ->
Run -> \\computer.

connecting to a network
Posted: 08-08-2007, 12:56 AM
I am pretty much computer illiterate. But I want to learn...
So any help is greatly appreciated.

I just updated my laptop from Windows XP Home Edition to Windows Vista.

Previously, when I had Windows XP as my operating system, I was connected to
a wireless network.

But now as I go to connect to my wireless network on Windows Vista, an error
message comes up:

"the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the
requirements of the network"

can anyone tell me how to fix this?

You may need to remove and reset it.
Go to the Network and Sharing Center. On the left, click Manage Wireless Networks.
Right click on the network icon in question and click Remove.
Then you can search for wireless networks and connect again with the correct information.

Thank you very, very much. This was amazingly easy, but surprisingly
difficult to figure out. Without this piece of advice, I would have been
lost for who know how long.
Again, Thank you
