Have you installed the latest video drivers for you graphics card? Have you
checked Event Viewer to see if there any error messages relating to this
Explorer failure? Did you check processes tab on Task Manager to see if
there are strange processes that you are not sure about that could possibly
becausing this? Did you install any applications recently that could be
could be causing the Explorer failure?

check the Application, System, and Security Event Viewer logs (right
click My Computer --> Manage) for any errors corresponding to the time that
you tried to connect and then post them here.

It's purely a random Vista crash - I get the same thing on one of my
machines - there's nothing I can do about it either, except pester the beta
teams (

Default RE: Control Panal Crash

Ive been having random "lockups" of various windows, including control panel,
IE, start button etc fairly often on mine. I have yet to figure out why.
Ive turned off everything that can be off, including aero and it still
happens. Even after format/reinstall it still persists (though to a lesser
extent).

I have somewhat the same issue..I dont crash but it just never comes up..The
same thing happens if I try and start anything from the START bar, I need to
go into programs and look it up for it to start. This issue is also for the
UPDATE, I can not get to Vista update..

Default RE: Control Panal Crash

After updating display drivers, etc. I still had the same problem. I had
performed an upgrade over an existing XP install - so all the old Control
Panel (.CPL) files were on the system. I searched for them, and removed every
CPL that was dated older than the Vista installation (to another folder, just
in case).

It wouldn't let me remove a couple of them related to the Sound drivers
(RealTek) but this didn't stop it working fine in the end.

And it worked - I can now successfully open up the Vista Control Panel! I
have the same problem with the Network Connections view, so will see if I can
find a similar solution.

Good luck

fyi, I had this problem when I upgraded...so I reinstalled into a new
location, which ended up being c:\windows anyways, and vista moved my old
windows/program files/mydocs to windows.old. then I just moved back what I
needed. that worked perfectly.
