If you use Classic view, Performance and Maintenance does
not appear.
try under Control Panel > Administrative Tools

Hi Bruce,

My Control Panel does not have that shortcut either. Try the alternate
method mentioned in the article:

Open a command prompt window:
Click Start, click Run, and then type CMD.
Press the ENTER key, and then type Net Start at the command prompt to make
sure that the System Restore service is up and running.

Hope this works for you
Richard

There are a couple of options.

Most of the time, a program's uninstall program will remove its Control
Panel applet. If this is not the case, you can delete the corresponding CPL
from %windir%\system32.

A safer route would be to disable the CPL item from TweakUI (Control Panel
node).

If you don't have TweakUI, download here:

Find the file and delete it.

I managed to install Win95 HP Scanjet 4C drivers under XP
(oops!). I deleted the drivers but the Scanner appears on
Control Panel and I cannot remove it.
How do I remove it and where can I get updated drivers for
the Scanjet?
Thanks

Check out HP for the updated drivers, link above, and to
get your scanner off go to my computer and right click,
properties, hardware tab, device manager, locate your
scanner under imaging and right click and uninstall it or
disable it, your choice.

I have a fast computer with 2gig hard drive. I don't
know much about a computer, but in running xp, when I
click on start, control panel, very often it takes 15
seconds for anything to happen.

Is this normal?

>It depends on quite a number of things. Having a 2GB
drive makes me think your computer is a few years old now
and may not be that fast anymore.

Click system information and look under 'System Summary'.
What speed does your processor run? (e.g., 2.16 GHz or
2162 MHz)

How much RAM do you have?

Have you downloaded and installed the appropriate service
packs? Check weekly at:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Have you made sure you don't have spyware/parasites etc.
If not do a Google serach for Ad Aware and SpyBot. I find
that Ad Aware finds things that SpyBot misses. Run them
both daily.
