Delete the Registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell \Bags and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell \BagMRU, both with
all the subentries, then create new keys "BagMRU" and "Bags" here. At
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam create a new
DWORD entry
BagMRU Size
and set this to
5000 (decimal)
Restart the computer.
This will reset all folder view settings, but also increase the cache
for folder layouts, so that unwanted layout changes should not happen
any longer afterwards.

Try "Switch to Classic View" at upper left side panel.

I prefer this exact same setup on my machine. For some reason when I did
this, I had to change the view 3 times before it stuck. Don't know why...

I would also like my folder views to stick.

I particularly like My Pictures folders to be thumbnails, but for program
folders or document folders this is a bit of overkill. (Details is probably
best here.)

I tick "remember folder settings", but they don't seem to stay
