copy musical cassettes to CD

Posted: 01-16-2005, 05:02 PM
We have tried to copy a cassette to the PC so that we can burn it onto a CD.
We used a cable from earphone on the boombox to microphone jack in back of
PC.

Then we tried to copy the cassette using MusicMatch 6.0. The directions say
to use the "record" button on MusicMatch. But our MusicMatch has no record
button.

Can someone help?

Thanks, Eileen

Enable "Record(er)" interface in your MusicMatch software. Should be under
"Options" or similar tag.

Michael,
I went to Options and checked "line in" and some other things that I thought
should be checked. I got the message that I should have Jukebox Plus to
copy cassettes and LPs.

So the version of MusicMatch that you have won't do what you want to do. You
might want to check out Microsoft Plus Digital Media Edition, which includes
Analog Recorder, and will enable you to transfer music from analog sources.
You should be aware, however, that using an amplified source (the headphone
jack) and a mic input is not the way you want to go. Ideally you should
have a source with line out jacks (as on a cassette deck) and use the
line-in on your audio card.

Raymond,
I checked about getting Microsoft Plus! It sounded like what we wanted.
But in small print, it says the program must be activated on the internet.
The PC we want to install this program is not hooked to the internet.

Now what?

The program can be activated over the phone. During the activation process
you'll be given that option and a phone number to use. It takes a few
minutes and is painless. Be careful, though. There are now three iterations
of Plus! floating around--Plus!, Plus! Digital Media Edition and Plus!
Superpack, which combines the two. You want either DME or the combo.

Download Audacity - or a similar (software) recorder - and record from
line-in. The free ones on the web are quite good.

Michael,
I went to the website for Audacity. Before I download... is this a program
that I can definitely copy from a cassette player to my PC?
Thanks, Eileen

I'm not sure you meant the question as phrased. It's a recording program
that will use the line-in on your sound-card. It won't know that it has
a cassette player attached to it.
