Copy profile to DEFAULT and ALL User Profile

Posted: 01-28-2004, 05:01 PM
I would like to ensure that the profile I've set up is used by all new users
and existing users. (For existing users on the machine, I would like for
them to have the new profile/settings be integrated with theirs (not wioe
theirs out). Is this possible? If so, can someone provide me the
techniques and ways to do this?

Thank you; however, let me clarify - I understand how to perform the default
user profile copy, but what I want to do is to automate this on systems
already in use (ALL USERS) and also on machines that I run RIS on (no one
has logged in yet - during the GUIRUNONCE after the machine first boots up.

Hello JR,
You should not do default profile copy\overwrite. This will break any
number of things inside the profile.
Thanks,

Ooh yes please, me2 !

AllUsers isn't as useful as itshould be, where UI is concerned:
- Desktop and Start Menu apply
- Send To and toolbars (QuickLaunch etc.) are NOT applied

You can generally export .reg from Current User while in the "fixed"
account and then log into the "bent" account merge in again - but
careful, in case some data has to change.

For example, most of the mysiad of data path entries (My Docs, My
Pictures, My Music, My Videos and Shared data objects) work using
%Userprofile% or %Username% as placeholders, with one annoying
exception; a reference that takes acccount name as the key, with the
path as the value (e.g. Owner = D:\Path\To\Owner's\Data).

That particular reference is in HKLM, so at least you won't be
snookered if you can't get into the account to set it - HKLM is stored
locally, irrespective of roving profiles and server-hosted user stuff.
