CPU utilization improvement

Posted: 10-12-2007, 06:47 AM
Hi All

I have a query regarding the performance of the CPU of my system for
specific softwares (OPNET to be specific).I am currently usibng OPNET s/w on
windows platform and the main issue is reagrding the % of CPU being utilized
when i run OPNET.When i check out the performance through Windows Task
Manager the CPU tends to be always less than 30% (27% to be specific). Does
windows have any threshold level for different processes or s/w being run on
it.This is making my simulation runs very slow and sometimes aborting
them.Does memory have to play a role in it?

How do i increase the CPU performance to make my simulations run faster?

Thank you.

Windows uses 'timings' to do what you are thinking of. Each process
has a priority thats sets its amount of processor usage. Most
processes use a low amount but a few will use a high amount. The scale
is based on 1 thru 10. So a process that has a priority of 10 runs at
the exclusion of everything else. A process that runs at a priority of
1 will be slowed by anything else running. It is based on 'clock
clicks' so if in the next 10 clock click IE gets 3 of them, everything
else has to share the remaining 7. This is adjustable by right
clicking the process that is actually running. BUT any changes only
apply while that program is actually doing that task. After a specific
task finishes the program will revert to the programs defaults for the
next task.
