Most are not meant to be opened for inspection. Why do you want to do so?
Which ones?

I suggest that you ask your friend what application created the file.

.DAT Files
Posted: 12-08-2003, 11:33 AM
Hi all, in the hope that you can help me with this little
issue...

I download a load of files from Kazaa, fine in principal
but I often have .dat files in the folder than aswell,
which when deleted also delete the genuine files. Is there
any way of getting rid of these .dat files without
compromising the hardcopy files. I have heard that there
is a command that resolves this but have not been able to
find this out.

Any help/input is greatly appreciated as this is driving
me mad.

Thanks in advance
Chris
