"data is invalid" fix did not work

I've read about altering the permissions in device manager
so that my usb port will pick up my digital camera
correctly. It has not fixed the problem. I still
get "data is invalid". Supposedly drivers are not
necessary in XP. But when I plug in my camera I still get
that "data is invalid" error. HELP!?!?!?!
