| I need help to properly set up both IE6 and OE6 as the default programs. I use control panel to set the defaults to want I want them to be. However, everytime I resuse the programs, they are no longer the default and I have to reset the program defaults in the control panel. I am unsure what program keeps replacing it, but all I know is that I don't want it to happen. How can I set it so that these programs are for sure the default, and so that no program will override that. Thank you. | Guest

| If nothing else opens in its place then nothing has taken it's place. It may mean the proper entry hasn't been made to make it the default. When you receive this notice, you should receive a message that tells you Internet Explorer is not currently the default browser, do you wish to make it so, answer yes and make sure to click or check the item in this dialog to NOT ask you again. If that doesn't resolve it or you don't see the option, open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, go to the programs tab and make sure Internet Explorer and Outlook Express are listed as the programs for e-mail, newsreader and browser. At the bottom of this tab is the following, "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser." If this is checked, remove the check, click apply, then check the option, click apply and ok and reboot the system. Now, open Internet Explorer, you should receive a message that tells you Internet Explorer is not currently the default browser, answer yes and make sure to click or check the item in this dialog to NOT ask you again. See if this also stops the Outlook Express dialog. I can't recall if on some setups that option to stop asking is included if it is, then select that option, if not, just answer yes that you want it to be the default newsreader and e-mail client and see if that stops it from doing it again based on the actions you've already taken with IE. -- Michael Solomon MS-MVP Windows Shell/User Backup is a PC User's Best Friend DTS-L.Org: http://www.dts-l.org/ <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:10aef01c44046$0030e7f0$a601280a@phx.gbl...
