defender problems

I some how deleted a portion of defender. I use vista ultimate... don't ask
me how but I did it. now when I try to re install it says it can't since its
part of vista. if I click on the defender icon I get "app failed to
initialize - 0X80070006. the handle is invalid.

tried to look for it in programs... not there... can't do updates since there
is nothing to update. its listed in control panel. under security and in my
registry. but something seems to be missing and I can't fix it.
