Defender wil not update

I have installed and run Msiexec
/x{A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C} but still Defender cannot
update. The definitions are 125 days old. I uninstalled & reinstalled
it. Run the fix 20 or 30 times. Searched everywhere for a fix but I
think this program is pure crap. Either that or I have something on my
machine that is blocking Defender. I tried disabling the firewall
while running the update but no luck.

Now my Adaware is freezing up during a deep scan. Related? Maybe.
The system is running slower since installing Defender including of all
things slow boot times. Can anyone help me out? I'm trying to avoid a
compete reinstall. That always seems to take me a week to reconfigure
everything.
