Delays browsing network shared drives in Win XP

Hi All,

I've recently bought a number of new PC's - they all have
XP Pro with 2.4Ghz, 40GB HDD and 256MB RAM. They all
connect to shared drives on a Novell NetWare 5.1 File
Server (with Novell Client v4.83).

My problem relates to delays experienced when browsing the
netware shared drives in My Computer/Windows Explorer. For
some reason i've been getting delays (up to 10 seconds)
when I attempt to access the netware shares. I can
actually access them, but its very slow going. I've used
Windows 2000 PC's on the same network and server using the
same netware client and have had no problems.

I found an article on the Microsoft Knowledge Base
(Reference number 814952) where they have confirmed that
this is a problem in XP Pro. The chaps at MS, being the
helpful people that they are, have created a fix for the
problem. HOWEVER, they haven't made available any details
on it (they say you have to contact their support
services - for a price)!!! Can anyone tell me why they
don't just display the fix details?

I'd appreciate any help you can offer. I've tried
accessing past posts on this topic however they seem to be
inaccessible (or removed from the newsgroup??)...

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply. I might just do what you said - I
was just using this newsgroup as a first stop thinking
others may have encountered the problem before and fixed
it (or got the fix from MS).

If anyone else has any other ideas please let me know.

Matt, I have received Hotfixes for networking from MS in the past. There
was no charge, they emailed me a password to access the patch. They just
make it difficult, not expensive.

Microsoft and they are sending the hotfix to me within the
next 24hrs.
