Denied access to System Information

Posted: 11-19-2003, 01:55 PM
When I try to open the System Information tool, I get the
following message:

Can't Collect Information
Access denied to Windows Management Instrumentation
server on this computer. Have an administrator change
your access permissions.

I'm the only user on this computer and therefore I also
have administrator privileges. I've also verified that I
have Administrator privileges with User Accounts in
Control Panel.

Any suggestions?

I also have the same problem and will be very interested to see a solution.
I've even booted in Safe Mode and logged in as Administrator and have the
problem there as well.

I have posted to this NG with no results.

To resolve this issue, make sure that the following services start
correctly:

Event Log
Windows Management Instrumentation
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Msinfo32.exe Generates a "Can't Collect Information" Error Message:

Verified, rebooted and same results. It also says to have Administrator
change access permissions and even booting in Safe Mode and logging on as
Admin, still does the same thing.

Not sure why. Did you check the Event Viewer for failed services or other
errors?

Clear the event logs and restart the system. Inspect the event viewer.

How does one check the Event Viewer, etc?

OK, I figured this part out. I cleared ALL log entries, rebooted, went and
clicked on System Information,...same problem. Viewed the event logs and
there were no errors.

Roaul, If the problem has occurred recently, perform a System Restore and
rollback the system to previous state. If that does not help, try a repair
installation: See:
