Desktop Shortcuts

Posted: 04-29-2007, 10:28 AM
Hi

When I install a game for my daughter the shortcut for it also appears on
all user's desktops. My wife hates having shortcuts on her desktop other
than those she specifies and so deletes them; they then vanish from all the
desktops.

Surely the point of individual desktops is that each person can have what
they want.

Is there any way of overcoming this problem? To add or delete shortcuts on a
per-user basis? There seems to be no options or controls for this under
'personalise'.

XP had the 'unused shortcut wizard' that you could invoke to do it; but I
can't find mention of this task/problem anywhere in the help files.

New machine with Home Premium factory installed.

Thanks
MarkS

Hi Mark,

Move the shortcuts from the shared default to the user's own desktop. From
here:

C:\Users\Public\Desktop

To here:

C:\Users\<daughter>\Desktop

Thanks for the response Rick I shall try that at once.

(But why can't an OS this big do something so simple?)

It is up to the developer to write the program properly, The OS has nothing
to do with it.

Why are shortcuts automatically being placed on my desktop when I open and
close a program from the desktop? It's driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!!
