Device driver crash

I am running xp home on a sony vaio laptop. I have
encountered crashes when I try to access any storage media
either via the usb or the cd drive. The only way to
recover is to remove the battery. Once rebooted a message
is sent to microsoft concerning a device driver error.

I have been unable to resolve the issue or find the driver
in question.

HELP!!!!!!
