Dialup problem....... Please help!

My friend has been having trouble with her dialup service
for days now. She can log on but, when she goes to the
internet, she gets the following message : Username
verified.... no data found or something similar to this.
It won't let her do anything involving being online. Is
this a virus? I have tried the search features here,
internet searches, Knowledge Base and her ISP helpline.
They said to install the patch(Microsoft one) and to run
MsBlast removal tool along with the Welsh removal tool.
Nothing found yet. She is up to date on Norton virus, and
Windows updates. Any ideas?

PS, She has WinXP Home on a 6mth. old puter if this helps
