I just bought this software package. Now I see that Digital Suite 2006 has
been released. What's the difference and should I upgrade? Thanks

Digital Image Pro 10 is an easy to use
image editing program that also includes
quite a few pre-formatted projects...greeting
cards, business cards, album pages, etc.

Digital Image Suite 2006 is version 11
and includes...Digital Image Suite 2006
Editor (almost exactly like DIP10 with a
few improvements like RAW support and
a special Black and White manipulation
tool) and Digital Image Suite 2006 Library.

The major improvements are in the Library
which now supports cataloging Nikon and
Canon RAW files and also Video clips. It
also includes PhotoStory 3.1 which is great
for making animated slideshows with music
and narration....and creating VCDs.

If you would like to know more about DIS
2006, you can download a .pdf copy of the
users manual at the following link:

Digital Image / Picture It! User Manuals:

(read online with a left click...download to your
hard drive with a right click / save target as)

If you wish to upgrade and your retailer will
not accept open box returns...there is a 30
day return guarantee directly from MS, there's
even a postage allowance:

Sorry for hijacking this thread but it allowed me to reply to posts but not
start a new thread?

I have Digital Image Pro 10 and the clone tool does not exist. I have owned
this program for numerous years and tried it on 3 different computers and
clone does not exist.

It says in the help files that clone is under touchup. Well under touchup I
have...

Colour and Saturation
Exposure and Lighting
Fix Red Eye
Smart Erase
Blending Brush
Unsharp Mask
Batch Edit in Mini Lab

No clone! Interestingly, in the manual the Contents says Clone brush is on
page 72 yet on page 72 is the Distortion brush.

If you look at the manual, Chapter 4, page 27 it shows a picture of the main
work area. Under Touchup, the Clone Brush is not even shown. Does it even
exist?

This program frustrates the heck out of me and I only recently put it back
in my current computer to try once again and see if I could get it to work.
Nope, still no clone and installing it into my hubby's computer and there is
no clone.

Tech Support replied with this....

"I understand that you would like to use Clone Painting option in Microsoft
Digital Image Pro 10, as it is been disabled." Well I've never disabled it
and how do I go about enabling it and what else in this program might be
disabled?

This program was bought in a store. It did not come with a computer.

Thanks

Ok...thanks for your reply.

Does the Common Tasks pane on
the left of your screen function correctly?

Here's a link to a screen shot of my
copy of DIP10:

DIP10
http://tinyurl.com/2h7nnp

Even though you do not see Clone Brush
on the menu... open an image and try the
following keyboard shortcut and see if it
will launch.

Alt+Shift+N

=====

There are three issues that can cause portions
of the program interface to be blank:

=====

1) Missing or Damaged Fonts...
If you have deleted any fonts, be sure that you
have the Verdana font in your fonts folder.

A replacement copy can be downloaded from
the following link:
http://simplythebest.net/fonts/fonts/verdana.html

in Windows

2) Excessive temp files...
Run DiskCleanup to delete all of your Temp
and Temporary internet files

(310312) Description of the Disk Cleanup
Tool in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310312

=====

3) Outdated or Corrupt Video Drivers...
If it's a video driver problem you can verify it by
reducing your graphics hardware acceleration
as per the instructions in the following KB article:

(272193) PI: How to Troubleshoot
Graphics Issues
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=272193
(scroll down to: Reduce the Graphics Hardware
Acceleration Setting) (if an improvement is
realized...theres a good chance the you need
to update your video driver)

Well, don't I feel silly. Yes, I have clone brush up in the Touchup options
along the top. I have no clue why I never thought to look up there. It
also works using Alt+Shift+N.

Thankyou so much for your help. I will try and see if I can get it to show
up on the left but as long as I can access it, where I get it from doesn't
matter. My laptop is less than a year old so I'd doubt it's a Video driver
but I'll see if I can figure it out.

Thanks again for your help. I guess I should have asked for help long ago.
lol

I have what appears to be a related problem in MS Photo Premium 10 with
'unsharp mask'.

I have tried using 'unsharp mask' and when the picture is to my satisfaction
and I click 'done' as instructed, instead of saving what I have just
achieved, the picture is changed to an even worse state than the original.
Surely if it can alter the image to my satisfaction on screen it should be
able to save it? I have not had this problem with other editing features such
as red eye, contrast, brightness etc

I don't understand what is happening and the 'unsharp mask' isn't even
mentioned at all in the manual so I don't know where to look for help.

Win XP or Vista?

What format are you saving in?

Are you saying the picture looks different
when viewed in Windows P&F Viewer? Or
in Windows Photo Gallery? Or does it look
different when you print it?

Personally, I never found unsharp mask to be
a worthwhile tool....it makes the pictures too
harsh for my taste. As for slightly out of focus
shots...trying to make them into something
useful is usually futile IMHO. I prefer to make
something arty from the bad pix using the
filters.

Just as a test on my XP system I just edited
a portrait with DIP10 Unsharp Mask and saved
it to my desktop. When opening it in WP&F
Viewer it looks exactly the same as the copy
in DIP10.
