Walk me thru disabling DMA. Sony urges me to disable DMA
before upgrading firmware for DVD recorder. I've been
rummaging through XP help screens for a half hour without
finding how to disable DMA.

It's in "device manager" in the "ide ata controler". If you don't know what
controler it's on disable it in both. I think to disable DMA you choose PIO
mode. The wording is dependent on what chipset your mother board has.
