DLink DWL G650+ driver

Posted: 09-01-2004, 09:08 AM
Hi there,

Does Microsoft plan to release a driver for the DLink DWL
G650+ wireless PCMCIA network card? The latest 2.02 driver
from DLink
(http://www.dlink.com.au/tech/drivers...ireless/dwlg65
0+.htm) causes my computer to hang (mouse won't move -
forced to hard reset) whenever I try to install it under
XP SP2 (worked in SP1).

After rebooting the computer, the device shows up in the
device manager, but has a yellow exclaimation point and
has a Code 31 in the status.

It's incredibly frustrating because I want to use SP2
because of the security features, but need to use my
wireless network card as well.

Any help regarding an alternative driver or getting the
current driver to work would be much appreciated.

I'm sure D-link is probably working on a driver update. After all it's
solely their responsibility to write drivers for their hardware, not that of
Microsoft.

Why not email D-link and ask?

Well I know that it's not Microsoft's responsiblity to
write drivers for 3rd party devices, but they have written
some drivers for some devices... I was just curious to see
if MS was planning on writing a driver for this particular
device...

Also, the fact that the OS completely hangs means that MS
is responsible for *something*. I'm unable to diangnose
the problem if I don't get any error message (heck even a
BSOD would provide some info...).
>Why not email D-link and ask?
I've emailed DLink... no reply yet... I've called them...
they suggested that I update the driver on my PCMCIA
adaptor... as far as I know there is no update for that
available. They also suggested that I disable the
firewall, that didn't work either.

I'm thinking of calling them again, but that means another
half an hour on hold :/

Thanks for your input.
