| After downloading a file (e.g. driver updates) to my PC, the file disappears as soon as the download completes. I have tried downloads from different sites, tried changing the suffix to ..xxx or .zip but they all disappear. Any ideas? I really do need to be able to update the drivers to Vista versions!!! | Guest

| Wyndamn-- Had you told us the driver and site where you downloaded from, I could have told you the file probably. They don't disappear; they often go to less intuitive locations like a %temp% in runbox folder or somewhere like C:\Dell\Drivers or similar places with cute names in the file path. Tell me the driver and where you download it from and where your Vista or XP whatever OS is located and I'll find the driver. A number of things in Vista also show up in subfile locations of C:\Users\Wyndamn's profile name or names in Vista depending on the drive or partition it's parked on. You also can get a tip before you run the download by looking at the dialogue box and noting the name of the driver file and often it will name where it's going. You can help yourself with the dialogue box by making a file on the desktop called Wyndam's drivers and sending them there if you want. Either way. Tip: With respect to Vista a number of us have noticed drivers seem to install better when you use a wizard (New HDW, New Printer, ect) by selecting "I'll install from location of my choice">then browsing to the file path of the download. | Also when multi-booting make sure if you sometimes send them to another system, that you click on the arrow and make sure it is to the correct drive as well as file name. I sometimes download for all my systems at one time when I am at the driver site, and all go to some drive(c,d,e,j): \Downloads file I use. | Thanks for responding. I download my files carefully to specific named locations and have never had this problem in the past. In this case the folder was called After the first time this happened I kept Explorer open underneath the file download dialog box and could see the file briefly appear in the folder, where I had specified it to be saved, before it disappeared. I tried searching with no success - incidentally Windows Vista doesn't appear to offer an option to restrict searches by date..... Since you asked, I downloaded (or tried..) 88.61_forceware_vista_x86_international.exe from nVidia "http://www.nvidia.com/content/license/location_download_nvidia_us.asp?url=http%3A%2F%2Fd ownload.nvidia.com%2FWindows%2F88.61%2F88.61_force ware_vista_x86_international.exe" and, the Vista driver from "http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?series=8&Software=True" "Chad Harris" wrote: Quote:

| If the user is running as a user account (not with administrative privileges) is it possible that UAC is deleting the file as a protection from new system files? -- Keeping the Fun in Dysfunctional... "Chad Harris" wrote: Quote:

| I am having the same problem. Any file downloaded from any site vanishes upon compleation. I have installed firefox and it works just fine. I have run all the adware, spyware, virus software to no avail. Ithink this is an IE problem since firefox works. I would, however, like to find a solution for this. Thanks -- Some say I''m crazy, I say it''s just a state of Mind! "Wyndham" wrote: Quote:

| The default download site using Internet Explorer in Vista appears to be C:\user\. However, there are several folders under that, and any one of them may end up with the file. Go figure. "dmte" wrote: Quote:

| Hi, I have found that;in addition to that; if the download does not have a valid digital signature; IE7+ (Vista IE7) will not allow the download to actually "download". It will let it go all the way;like it's downloading-stop-chk it for a valid digisig-and if not-POOF-gone!!!! This is really bothersome; in fact;Office 2007 does not have a valid digital signature!!!! LOL from MS too. There is a workaround for it though. In internet options> adanced tab> scroll down to security; you will see a box that says- Check downloaded programs for digital signature-for some reason; it is enabled(checked) by default-on my pc;at least. Just uncheck it; and if it's a digital signature issue;IE7+ will let it continue. Three times;440Mb Office Pro Plus--POOF-gone; before I figured that out!!!
