Default Drive Image 7 & Protector Service

I notice that installing Drive Image 7, also runs a Protector Service in
WinXP.
That Protector Service takes more than 17MB of memory = huge.

My question is:
Do I need it ?
I am not connected to a network nor do I want to schedule backups.

Thanks Michael,
But what a price we have to pay for that : 17MB of memory, the biggest
RAM-consumer of all the software I have on my machine.
This is a disappointment to me.
