driveletters

I love the new explorer in vista with all the 'new' features
I have been trying out a lot of combinations tweaking the UI of
explorer to fit my needs
one of them was removing the driveletters (finally)
now I am looking for a way to open up a folder from the run dialog box
without using the drive letter
I use that way to open up hidden folders instead of showing them all in
explorer
anyone who knows how to do this?

thnx

Um, if you remove the drive letter, then there is no root directory for the
folders/files on that drive. Without a root, there is no way to index or
catalog the files on the drive, so there is no means for the system to
locate them.

Rick "Nutcase" Rogers used his keyboard to write :

it is just a GUI hack AFAIK
so the drive letters are still used or so I think
I did see that windows makes use of the "device\harddisk1\volume\....."
syntax more often to retrieve items
that's a good thing

now to get rid of the drive letters entirely would be awesome
something for the next release most likely ;-)
when they will be truly giving up on backward compatibility

I just wondered that if I do choose to see no more drive letter within
explorer ever again for as long as I live
and I eventually forgot all about them how would I address a certain
folder under the root of a hard disk or a partition named "whatever"

I'd say I would go to \..\whatever\folder\subfolder\and_so_on
but that didn't work, nor would any other combination I could think off
the funny thing is that you do get to see that there is some retrieval
of foldernames but then you get a error saying that windows could not
find that folder

thnx
