Default DriverStudio ...

.... does anyone remember that?

I used it for Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP drivers, can anyone recommend
something similar for Vista or are we stuck with Microsoft's DDK?

Thanks.

Please if you are going to post everywhere, do it with one post, not
individual post to 4 newsgrous.

DriverStudio has thankfully been discontinued (having run modern static
analysis tools on the source it had thousand of bugs). You can still buy it
but no support, no upgrades, etc.

Most people are shifting to WDF which Microosoft provides that handles the
problems of Pnp/Power and other details for you. It has two flavors KMDF
(kernel mode driver framework) and UMDF (user mode driver framework).

it is dead and gone. if you are writing a driver that does not require hw,
you can use a VM
