Dumping Windows Messenger

Posted: 12-07-2008, 06:21 AM
I just installed Service Pack 3 on my XP Home computer.
How do I get rid of Windows Messenger (completely)
I don't want it to load and keep reminding me that I am "not signed in"
(or constantly trying to act as a server etc.)
TIA for any help.

You can just uninstall it. Windows Live Messenger has replace that relic
anyway. If you can't uninstall it just remove it from the startup menu or
the run key in the registry. You could also go to properties in Windows
Messenger and remove the check mark that indicates that it should load when
windows starts.

Windows Live Messenger > Start> Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs

You can not delete Windows Messenger from your computer; it is part of XP.
BUT!
Windows Messenger >Start > Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs >
Add/Remove Windows Components > Scroll down the Components List > Untick
Windows Messenger, Next etc

Sunny:
A quite simple way of ridding Windows Messenger from your system is

1. Close Messenger if it's running.

2. Click Start | Run and paste the following line into the Run field:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
%windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

3. Click OK and reboot.

And that's it.

Thanks everyone, I removed it successfully :-)
(tossed a coin, and removed it from the start menu)
