Duplicate User Accounts

Posted: 06-20-2007, 07:04 AM
Hello:

After upgrading to Vista Business from XP Pro, I find that under my User
listings I have multiple Users:

Default (normal?)
User 1
User 2
User 2.HOMECOMPUTER
User 2~HOMECOMPUTER

As best I can tell, when I log onto Windows, it is defaulting to
User2.HOMECOMPUTER (thus the ~?) but all of my settings seem to be under the
User 2 folder. Thus, each time I log on, I have to reactivate my programs
and reload files (e.g., Quickn file). Is there an easy fix for this or is
something wrong?

Thx.
John

Duplicate user accounts
Posted: 03-25-2008, 04:23 PM

Greetings. Popular topic I see.

I have a similar issue I have seen discussed on many forums, including
this one. On log-in, I first see an error message: "The user name or
password is incorrect" with an OK button. On clicking OK, I then see two
duplicated user logins for my personal admin account, both with the same
icon, along with the icon for my networked business comp. Both dupe
accounts have the same null password. Tapping enter on either account
logs me in with no apparent difference in rights.

I do not have Omnipass installed. Log-in without password is checked.

Net user accounts: Administrator, Guest, JMark, Work
Account manager: JMark (Admin,) Guest (off,) Work (Standard user)

I do have a windows.old directory left over from SP1 beta and
subsequently, SP1 final install. I tried renaming this folder without
positive results.

System: Custom build, ASUS P5K-VM, Q6600, 4gb

Any suggestions would be appreciated for this annoying issue!

JMark
