| I have a new Sony TRV 22. I'm am trying to capture a 4 minute video in Movie Maker version 2. When I get to the option of selecting Video settings, DV-AVI is grayed out. I'd like to see what the highest quality output looks like. Can you help? Is DV-AVI better than the option of "Large File"? Thanks for any help. | Guest

| Chuck, What Hywel said is absolutely correct, but perhaps a bit understated. If you capture from USB the quality will suck, no matter what setting you use in MM2. The stream from your camera's USB port is a reduced-resolution, highly-compressed video. You need to capture using IEEE-1394 (FireWire) to get high-quality DV-AVI video. You can buy a 4-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable from your local Radio Shack for $32 (http://tinyurl.com/whjp) or order online from Sony for $45 (http://tinyurl.com/2ngro) including shipping charges. -Bob ____________________________ Microsoft MVP Windows XP Media Center Edition www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter "Hywel" <usenet@kibo.org.uk> wrote in message news:MPG.1aa122da9f7bf595989a43@news.individual.ne t... | I just bought a sony camcorder as well. You need a Firewire connection (IEEE 1394) to use that option. I'm guessing you are using USB streaming. Bought a Belkin from amazon for about 35 bucks. Comes with card and cable. At that setting it imports clips at about 178MB per minute! I now need to figure out how to import at that high quality and be able to compress it down to fit on a VCD or DVD. Quote:

| I don’t know if you guys are still paying attention to this thread, but I hope you are as I need some help. I have just built a new Windows XP pro machine using an Abit 1C7 max3 board after using a Mac for quite a long time. I have about 3 built in, board provided fire wire ports. When I plug my SONY digital 8 the computer can not seem to see. I have tested the ports with a exterior cd burner and there dose not seem to be and physical problems. Any advice or references to where I can find the info would be appreciated. | Guest
