dv cam corder

I have a pv-dv953 cam corder and have an issue with it
correctly being recognized via the fire wire connection.
The "AV/C Subunit" will always show the exclamation point
and will not get resolved. Panasonic states this is not
a camera issue but an XP problem... Any help would be
greatly appreciated... Thanks
