DVD Install Problems

I installed a second dvd burner but vista doesn't recognize it when I go to
"My Computer". This occures with which ever burner is installed as the
slave. Both burners show up in the BIOS but not in Vista. Any ideas. I'm
not very computer smart but I'm not a dummy either. Please help.

Check the jumpers, both at the rear of the optical drive(s) AND at the back
of the hard drive(s). If you're using Master/Slave, ensure one isn't set to
CS (Cable Select).

Are ALL the drives seen in the BIOS?

Neither jumper is set to CS, one is master and the other is slave. All
drives are seen in BIOS, it is the unit set as slave that doesn't appear in
Vista "Computer" all other devices are present.

Hi BobL,

Don't forget to check the obvious things such as the cables. It is possible
that a faulty cable can cause a device to be recognised in the BIOS but yet
not be seen by Windows. Even unplugging and reconnecting a cable can
sometimes solve the problem, but if not then try a different IDE cable. Even
if you don't use CS, you should still attach your devices so that the one you
jumper as Master is attached to the end of the cable and the one you jumper
as slave to the connector in the middle. Even better, if your motherboard has
the capacity, is to connect the drives up to their own port using separate
cables. Another thing to check is whether the slave channel is actually
activated in Device Manager.
