check www.dvdrhelp.com for compatibility with players.
Reducing the bitraste a little may help in some cases, what settings did you
use?
Can you use -r, this may work for them?

If the players support dvd+r format, then it may be the media disks.
Did you apply any labels? Label stickers are cause of many such issues.

I did have a label on it and it still played fine, until my friend tried it
in hers. I am so disappointed. I thought I finally figured everything out
(after a month of brainstorming).

Labels gave me similar issues: my friend gave me a dvd disk with label, it
did not play on my standalone dvd player although it woorked on my friends
dvd player. Many other users on another forum have reported that after
removing the label using a special chemical (cant remember what), the disk
becomes playable again.

Interesting.... I will try to remove the label and see if that works.

What exactly is bitraste & how do I adjust this? And when referring to
settings do you mean on movie maker or when I burned it using Nero? I am
very new to this!

Sorry my spelling, should have been BITRATE.
Nero will not give you the option to do this, I believe it just gives
quality options to fit more on the disc. To get this you'd need to buy a
better dvd authoring app.
I am of the opinion you may just be finding the limitations of home burning.
To get best results you need a good quality disc, buy ones with the ritek
go4 dye. A good encoder/authoring app and the luck of the devil when
choosing a machine to play it in!!!!!
