Yesterday i installed SP1 on my vista ultimate x64 via microsoft update after
that all was ok expect for the dvd drive it cannot read dvd's anymore cd's
are ok though i figured that this is a problem that began after the
installation of sp1 cause before it was ok and my dvd drive is making some
noice sometimes just like when i insert a disk in it. anyone knows what could
the problem be?

Are you using any added software besides native Vista? Have you tried
installing codec's again. Are you talking about reading, writing or both.

you could try a firmware update for your drive...shot in the dark but the manufacturer may be aware of the problem and MAY have released a fw update for it.

I did a firmware update to the latest available and nothing changed. Well i
have uninstalled SP1 yesterday just to see if the problem would fix and it
didnt so it looks like that it isnt an SP1 problem after all it just happened
to occur at the same time probably my drive reached its limit or something.
Thanks for the help though
