DVDRW Cannot Write In Win XP SP1a

My Sony DRU 500A sees everything as "read only".
My system is dual-boot, Win 2000 SP4 and Win XP SP1a.
The drive works correctly in Windows 2000, so I don't think it's a hardware
issue.
I've tried:
1. Disabling native XP writing
2. Removing device from Device Manager to let XP "rediscover " the drive
3. Run XP_CD-DVD-Fix.exe
4. Removing Alcohol 120
5. Uninstalling/reinstalling Nreo 5.5.10.50
6. Tried five different brands of CDR and DVD-R media
Presently installed: RecordNow Max 4.5 (came with drive) and Nero.
Same software OK in Win 2000.
So, what's the deal? Any suggestions or opinions why the problem and how to
fix it?
