| I have followed all the instructions regarding the Belkin Easy Transfer Cable. I have tried it every way they describe and even went online and did what PCLync tech support suggested and now they are telling me it's a microsoft issue or something. I have both cables plugged in, the PCLync up and running, the green light is on on the cable and nothing happens. My computer doesn't have a connection. I tried to set up a new USB connection and it wont work. I even tried the Windows Easy Transfer and nothing happens. It gets stuck on this one screen and doesn't ask me what I want to transfer. Can someone please help me or at least direct me somewhere I can get help from? I am seriously considering asking for Windows XP on my new laptop because this isn't working. | Guest

1. Install the Easy Transfer software on the old machine. 2. Connect the two computers with the special cable. 3. The screen on the new computer will appear and it looks like you can't do anything (you can't). 4. Go to the *old* computer and you will be able to choose what files you want to transfer over. Are you doing that? Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" MS-MVP Windows - Shell/User | Guest

| Malke - I tried this and the screen where you can do nothing came up on both computers. It said it would automatically detect the connection but it didn't. My desktop "old" computer is not on the internet as we have wireless. There is an error with my USB driver but I dont know how to help it. I've installed the drivers from the CD. HELP??? data to cd/dvd instead and copy it to your user account on the new machine. I've used the Easy Transfer (Belkin) for a client and it worked well but if it doesn't work for you then there's always the old-fashioned way instead. | I have the Belkin Easy Transfer Cable/software, both properly installed, and I encounter the same problem. When WET is started on the XP side only the WET Welcome screen is displayed; clicking on 'Next' causes the CPU to run up to 100% for a time, then nothing - Task Manager shows 'Not Responding'. I have viewed the install and error logs, both indicate errors, yet the errors are impossible to comprehend and are therefore worthless. Uninstall, cleanup, and reinstall cycles have been repeated several times with A/V, A/S, and firewalls disabled - same result. This has been most frustrating. As an experiment I have installed WET on two additional XP-SP2 machines. One fails exactly the same way, the other appears to work, or at least progresses through several more screens. Frustration is compounded by virture of the fact that there appears to be NO SUPPORT for WET, especially bizzare considering that Microsoft wants customers to move to Vista! I have scoured newsgroups and forums, posted my error logs, and I keep searching all to no avail. I have contacted Belkin and await a follow-up call from them but I'm not especially confident a solution will be forthcoming, WET is a Microsoft creation. Rational responses will be greatly appreciated. "Malke" wrote: Quote:

| My apologies in advance if this is redundant. I posted a reply to a slightly different topic, then felt it might not get the visibility I'd like in the hope of obtaining a solution. My transfer works correctly but my problem is the files are being saved onto something called my recovery drive which only has 1 gig of space left. I can't find out how to change the destination folder when transferring over USB cables. Any insight? -- dturpin1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ dturpin1's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=29209 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=693532 http://forums.techarena.in | Guest

| I am quite frustrated by this Easy Transfer software. I've got the Belkin cable and going from my XP machine to the Vista machine trying to transfer photos. Previously I tried to transfer documents. But at some point, the transfer program hits a file -- in one case it was an access file, in another it was a photo -- and announces it's timed out and can't transfer the file. Both computers have the error and ask if I want to skip the file and continue. I click to continue on both computers and... well... that's it. Nothing happens. Both computers appear to lock up and transferring never continues. I have to cancel out of Easy Transfer on the Vista computer and ctrl-alt-delete out on XP. Some times the transfer just stalls... no error message... nothing. What's going on? This is very frustrating. I'm ready to string someone up with the Belkin cable. -- ajmoor ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ajmoor's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=29246 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=693532 http://forums.techarena.in | Guest
