Easy Transfer problems

Posted: 02-19-2007, 04:49 PM
My new Acer Pentium laptop w/1gb and Vista Home Premium has an 80gb disk set
up as 2 40gb disks. Why - I don't know, and hate it. But I guess I'm
stuck. When I tried use the Vista Easy Transfer utility to move my settings
and etc. from my old 40gb HP laptop, it stopped, having filled up c: and
giving no option except to click OK. No suggested solutions, no way to
"undo". Now I'm stuck - no room hardly on C:, no Outlook Express on the new
computer, a few folders on the root of c:, some icons on my screen, ???
What a mess. I don't want to start over. But maybe, if I can do it and
start with one large 80gb disk it would be worth the agony. Any suggestions
for an easier solution?

I can see some files on my Vista - public only - using my in house Ethernet
network, so a few things are working. But I want to see all my files, not
just "public".

Thanks in advance, Paul

Did you get a full Vista OS disk from Acer, or is it an image disk?
You can use a partitioning program to resize the partition to 1 80 GB
space.
I use Partition Magic, but I don't know if it's Vista compatible.
There should be something out there that is, that you can probably get
as a trial or demo for 30 days.
That would definitely solve your problem. You can always do a clean
install of Vista from the disc, then use the partitioning tools.
Try www.partitionmagic.com
Like I said, though, I don't know if you can use it w/ Vista.
Good Luck!

Thanks, Spencer,

Acer made me make my own restore DVD. I love the laptop - I already despise
the Acer support - none that I can find on the internet. I've registered,
etc. to no avail. And Acer has a lot of their own extra stuff - advertising
slide show, for example, that I will eventually find out how to remove.

I'm taking my Acer Aspire 5610-2273 back to Best Buy to try to get their
Geeks to help me solve various problems - mainly moving my settings, Outlook
Express, etc. to the new computer - FOR FREE! (I hope).

I can live with the inconvenient pair of 40gb disks if I have to - I had a
Sony that did that to me - I just put all my own files - pictures, etc. on
D:

I think I'll need that Good Luck.
