ecp\lpt port settings ,does not print when "never use an interrupt" is chosen

i notice this problem in several hp printers (laser &
deskjet),after installing the printer driver their is no
output from the printer ,their are no error masages and
the Q is empty.
when i change the port settings to " use any interrupt
assigned to the port" the problem is solved.
why "never use an interrupt" is the default if it's not
working?
