EPSON 1280 printer with HP 751N & Windows XP

I recently purchased an EPSON 1280 wide carriage printer.
I went to the EPSON site and downloaded the new driver for
XP and installed according to EPSON instructions. Once
installed computer became very unstable causing numerous
system crashes. I tried to use the system restore, but no
luck. I have just had to rebuild my computer. Tried to
install the 1280, but it has started log off and restart
again. Can anyone help? Will I not be able to use the
1280?
