Epson & Umax driver problems

Epson Stylus Color 740 - USB. I've moved this to my new WinXP machine. Got
the latest drivers from the Epson site (including the latest Status Monitor
from the US site that the UK site doesn't tell you about). The driver works
fine but the Status Monitor cannot find the printer. Why?
I also have Epson Color 740 ESC/P 2 showing in the list of printers. What's
this.

Umax Astra 2000U - USB Whatever I do this just picks up the Windows driver.
How can I force it to use the Umax driver (Vistascan) ? I've tried just
about every combination of uninstall/reinstall/reboot hardware/software and
just get the same result.

Any ideas gratefully accepted,
