EPSON CX3100

I am suddenly getting a Communication Error message when I
try to print from the CX3100.I ignore it or x close it and
the printer works OK. But now my printer properties file
will not give me details of ink cartridge useage or low
ink warnings. Can anyone help me correct this anomaly.
