Epson Stylus Photo RX500

Posted: 01-20-2004, 12:31 AM
I just purchased this all in one printer/scanner and have
been unable to get the latest scan driver from the Epson
website loaded. When the PC is rebooted and it recognizes
the new hardware (Epson Scanner), it is in process of
installing the drivers and then the the wizard message
comes up and states; "Error occurred during Installation
of hardware. The class installer has denied the request
to install or upgrade this device"

I have been back forth with Epson and they say this is an
XP problem.

If anyone has seen this and knows a fix, I would be
greatful to find out how to cure this. Thanks

I am having the same problem with the Stylus CX 5400.
Epson says its an XP problem and can't give me the fix.
I have done everything. The miscrosoft knowledge base
contains an article # 300462 that indicates that the
Twain drivers and WIA dirvers conflict and has some
instructions, but I am too dumb to figure them out on my
own-maybe you would have better luck. I am ready to
return my all-in-one and wonder why more XP people aren't
complaining...

I have given up. Spoke with another person having the
same issue with XP and the RX500. This is such bull!
What ever happened to system integration/regression
testing? Bringing this unit back to CompUsa.

Finally, after much pain, effort and strife, I've come across a solutio
to this particular epson problem.

It seems this has to deal with XP administrator privileges. Epso
forgot to give one of it's folders privileges to be modified...o
course, the one that is needed in order to install the update
drivers.:aaa

1) Click start>run, and type in "regedit" without the quotes.
2) On the folder list on the left, get to the folde
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/EPSON/EPSON SCAN
3) Right click the EPSON SCAN folder, and hit "Permissions..."
4) Make sure "Administrators" is highlighted, and then underneath th
Add & Remove buttons should be "Permissions for Administrators"
5) Put a checkmark in both the "Full Control" and "Read" Allow column.
6) Hit apply and then ok.

You should now be able to install the drivers without error.

Hope this helps!
