Error 3170

Posted: 07-09-2003, 02:11 AM
Yes the error code is -3170 The specified server could not be found. This
error code happens whenever I try to connect Entourage to the internet.
Other programs on the same computer connect to the net fine.

Is it possible that your mail box is full after vacation? I would check to
"Allow Online Access " in the options tab under Accounts.

Under Tools in the menu bar, select Accounts. Go to Options on that Account
and select "Allow Online Access". You will see an icon at the bottom of your
folders. Click on this to view mail left on server.

It's possible there is a bad message that is creating the problem. (Often
it's the oldest message.) Look for a complex HTML message (lots of spam uses
HTML). Find the offending message and delete. Be sure that you turn off the
"preview" pane when looking at your online message LIST. Sometimes offending
stuff will crash or stymie your system when trying to open the offending
message.

This is probably being passed on to Entourage from your ISP. You can call
them for an explanation.

We have error 5550.
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/errors.html#anchor-error5550>

If you get an explanation for 5500, let me know.

Info we have available on 3170:

This is because none of the installed Directory Services are still active.
Go to Mail and News Preferences, then click the "Compose" tab. Uncheck the
option to "Automatically check names when sending messages".

Also, go to Tools -> Accounts, click the "Directory Service" tab, then
delete all of the pre-installed servers.

Note: error messages can have different descriptions for same number and
sometimes the solutions are different. You can get clues from the fix and
from other errors that are near that number.

3170 means that the server could not be found. It could be a problem
anywhere in the network chain: your network isnšt connected (can you browse
the web?), the server name isnšt right in the account, the DNS server is not
working properly, youšre proxy server is misconfigured.

Yes * I have had this error ever since łupgrading˛ . I believe that the
client can not reach the LDAP service on your exchange server and this is a
time-out. How to fix it? Lap of the gods.
