Error Code: 0x80070017

Hello,

I need some help!! I'm trying to upgrade Vista RC1 32-Bit Edition. After I
fill in all the information and the Windows Installs, after about 4%
completion I get an error message saying that "Windows cannot copy files
required for the installation. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure
all files required for installation are available, and restart the
installation. Erroe code: 0x80070017". Before installing Vista, I ran Windows
Vista Upgrade Advisor and is said that my computer is ok to upgrade Vista.
I'm upgrading to Vista from Windows XP Home Edition. Some help will be
appreciated!

Thnx.

Sounds like either a bad download or burn. Try burning a new copy on a
lower speed or downloading a new copy.

Rish,

Did you ever solve this problem? I have the same problem. I have confirmed
the hash and burned at my burner's minimum speed of 2.4x. I do not believe
it is a burn issue, as all the files were copied successfully from the disc
and expanded. The machine then rebooted and began additional installation
before getting the error message.

I am having the same problem. I burned another copy with a different DVD
burner and it looks to be working?? Go figure??

Sony DVD burner did not work but a Pioneer did??

I’ve come to the conclusion that 97% of downloads with the download
manager result in that error code. I downloaded from the manager
twice, burned twice, and got the error twice.

I then downloaded it through my browser once, burned once, and it
installed and upgraded fine. Kind of p*d that I wasted two DVDs, but
nonetheless.

Try downloading the file directly from your browser. Don’t use the
program Microsoft suggests, or any outside downloaders like GetRight.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what the problem is, but it fails with
error along the lines of "An error occurred while laying down image." That
sounds like a problem writing to the hard drive to me, but maybe Microsoft
can explain what it really means.

Microsoft, are you there?

Thanks.
