error screen after booting from DVD

Posted: 04-03-2007, 03:02 PM
I am trying to do a clean install and pressed a key when it asks to to boot
from the DVD. Than, it loads the files and brings up an error screen. Any
suggestions? I have the upgrade version and tried upgrading too and the same
thing happens.

What does the error screen say?

I am not at my main computer now, and can give more detail in a few hours,
but the 'error screen' has a completely blue background with white lettering
involving some kindof repeated zero's followed by other numbers. (ex:
<0000007>) but I can't remember for sure. This happens both when I upgrade
and when I do a clean install and it asks you to press a key to boot from
CD/DVD, so I did, it goes ot the loading bar that says "Windows is Loading
Files" and than it brings up the error screen.

Ok, I have the entire error screen info.
The computer boots up and shows the "Startup Screen" (screen that lets me
recover, setup, or boot) and after that it goes to the "click any key to boot
from CD/DVD (with Vista Home Basic in drive)" and so I press a key. After
that it goes to the "Windows is loading files..." page and the bar goes all
the way across, than the error screen. Here's the 'specifics', whole screen
is blue with one line of white text that says: **STOP: 0x0000005C
(0x0000010B, 0x00000003, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

.... or if I don't press any key it brings me to a menu with 3 options:
Earlier Version of Windows
Windows Setup (which, if selected loads and brings error screen up like the
other one [also, if i select it with the keyboard, but don't hit enter i can
press F8 and it brings up the safe mode options])
and Microsoft Recovery Console.
Anyone know what I should do? My system meets the specs and I used the
upgrade advisor, and everything (exception my wireless chip and printer and
drivers for graphics chip...) 'checks out' ok. Am I supposed to remove the
programs/parts that are mentioned in that list of tasks?

I suspect (though I can't be positive) that your graphics chip is the
culprit, if its driver didn't 'check out'. Blue-screen crashes as a
rule are caused by incompatible drivers, and video drivers are often
the worst offenders because the system can't possibly boot without a
video driver.

Booting into Safe Mode is often a way around the problem until you can
get the right driver for your graphics chip -- or, of course, you can
install a new Vista-compatible graphics card.

Does your option to boot to an older version of Windows actually work?

Yes, it actually does. If I click the upgrade, it gets to a certain point and
says it needs to restart, and that's when the setup can't boot. I'll try out
safemode/using the chip that is attached to the motherboard (but is a little
worse) and installing the drivers afterward if it works!
