???.exe has encountered a problem.....

I have installed some programs onto my computer and then
after a few hours and a couple of restarts the programs no
longer work. I get the message:-

programname.exe has encoutered a problem and needs to
close. Sorry for the inconvienience.

It happens to about 4 or 5 of my programs and they all
display the same if not a similar message.

Anybody know how to solve this???
