expired password

I sold my computer to a friend. Before selling it I
installed Windows XP Prof. She had a message to show up
saying that her password was about to expire and must be
changed. Upon returning form vacation, she couldn't log
on to windows because an error message stated "password
has expired, must be changed." I never had a password (I
don't think). The message said that she must type in old
password and enter a new one. I gave her the password i
would have had if i did have one and she typed in a new
one w/out success. Does anyone know how she can log on to
windows to fix this problem? Thanks Denise

Stop Password Expiration in Windows XP Professional:

- Logon as Administrator or another account with Admin privileges
- Click Start > Run and in the Open: box type "control userpasswords2"
- Select the Advanced tab in the User Accounts window
- Press the Advanced button below the Advanced user management header
- Select Users in the Local Users and Groups
- In the right pane, right-click the user name for which you want to change
the setting, and select Properties
- On the General tab, check "Password never expires"
- Click Apply and OK

If you do not have a Password Recovery Disk, it is to late to make it.
Or
Log in to any account that has Administrator access.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select the user and change the password.

Reboot to Safe Mode, select Administrator, leave password blank.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select the user and change the password.
If you are using Windows XP Pro and have encrypted data, you may
permanently lose access to the encrypted data.

Another option is to install Windows XP on another partition and take
Ownership of your data.
You could also perform another installation on the same partition,
although this is not a permanent fix and it is recommended to perform
a Clean Installation after retrieving your data.

How do you recover once your password has expired prior
to it being changed?

Password Has Expired Message
Start/Programs/Administrative Tools/Local Security Policy/Account
Policies/Password Policy. In the right pane, right click, properties,
modify (use accordingly). And Start/Programs/Administrative Tools/Computer
Management/Local Users and Groups/Right Click
"User"(intended)/Properties...Or with Admin privileges, at a command prompt
type: net accounts /maxpwage:unlimited.
