Explorer not responding

Posted: 07-14-2003, 02:04 AM
Every time I start windows, I move the mouse down to the
start menu and all the pointer turns into an hourglass and
I'm not able to use the taskbar at all. When I end the
task "explorer.exe" and restart it again, I can use the
start menu for about 5 seconds before it stops responding
once again. What should I do?

Explorer Not Responding

When doing a search for files using My Computer or
attempting to select a backgroud picture for a PowerPoint
2000 presentation, the computer tends to stall for a
minute or so as if I never clicked the file or folder. It
has parenthesis at the top of the window saying (not
responding). If I wait, it finally responds and I can
proceed.

I am running WindowsXP with McAfee Virus Protection,
AdSubtractPro, and SpamSubtract. I do not notice a change
when turning off the additional programs. I have
defragmented the drives and still see no change.

What other possibilites could cause this problem?
