Express Upgrade DVD Bootable?

Posted: 03-20-2007, 10:53 PM
Hi,

I just received the Express Upgrade DVD of Home Premium in the mail. I
bought my notebook, requested the Express Upgrade disc. Due to the
hardware failure, the notebook is refunded.

I now have a copy of Vista Home Premium Express Upgrade DVD.

My question is, is the DVD bootable so I could install Vista without
installing from within XP? Will the disc from the Express Upgrade
program allow me to install onto a non-HP computer?

Thanks

You must be the 1st person to receive such a rare item....the rest of us
have been waiting for weeks if not months.
So being the first you also get to test to see if what you wish to do will
work.
I would Clone/Image theHD first and then give it a shot.
let us know the results

This is so odd then.... my friends received the Vista disc already as
well. We are in Canada.

I don't have a system to try it out with yet.

Looks like Express Upgrade discs are starting to ship in quantity. I've
received several now (signed up back in December).

The Vista disc is definitely bootable (HPs come with an HP Upgrade Assistant
DVD too). Seems to be a standard 32 bit Vista bootable upgrade DVD (I assume
with the same loophole to allow a clean install that had been reported
earlier--file dates are all 11-2-2006).

That's what I want to know, so the HP Install Assistant disc is just
installing drivers and help novice user to prep the system for Vista
install.

Those who are more technical can just boot the DVD and install Vista
right away.

My HP Install Assistant disk did a BIOS flash and also
removed the restore partition. Not sure if the BIOS flash
did anything besides removing the F11 restore option.

Yes, got mine last week, and it is bootable. Just a standard upgrade disk.

I received my Express Upgrade DVD four days ago, and it is
bootable. In fact, I did a clean install and was surprised that
the OEM product key allowed it.
