Extend C: Drive

Posted: 01-08-2009, 06:29 PM
I run out C: drive space and have a lot of space in D:drive.
I offen get warnning: C:Volumn is low
I tried Shrink D:Volumn and extend C:Volumn
To Shrink D:Volumn is OK but the free space cannot be used to increase the
C: drive space.

Help needed

If C: and D: are on two physically separate hard disks there's no way t
increase the capacity of C: by taking it from D

Even if both partitions are on same hard disk, you cannot do what yo
want without destroying Windows and having to re-install it, which i
why Windows won't let you do it
You need to buy some specialist partitioning software such a
"Partition Magic" to alter partition sizes without destroying Windows

'Partition Magic Download - Partition Software - Partition Hard Drive
Norton PartitionMagic' (http://www.symantec.com/norton/partitionmagic

But remember, both partitions in question must be on the same disk i
order to 'shrink' one of them and enlarge the other by the same amount

Your only other option, if you don't want to buy additiona
partitioning software, is to delete both partitions, create new ones a
the sizes you want, then re-install Windows
